Janelle Anyanonu

Janelle Anyanonu is an American politician currently serving as a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives for the 19th district. Raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she is the daughter of a Nigerian immigrant and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in applied sciences from Wayland Baptist University. Before her election in 2022, she worked as an office manager and was active with the New Mexico Black Central Organizing Committee. During her first legislative session, she was a key sponsor of the Reproductive and Gender-Affirming Health Care Freedom Act, which was signed into law in 2023 to protect access to reproductive and gender-affirming medical care in the state.
