Janelle Bynum is an American politician and businesswoman serving as the U.S. representative for Oregon's 5th congressional district since 2025. She is the first Black member of Congress from Oregon. Previously, she served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2017 to 2025, where she chaired the House Committee on Economic Development and Small Business and championed the Oregon CHIPS Act. Before entering politics, Bynum worked as an engineer for General Motors and operated several McDonald's franchises in the Portland area.
