Janet Mills is an American politician and lawyer serving as the 75th Governor of Maine since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the Attorney General of Maine and as a member of the Maine House of Representatives. Throughout her career, she has been a prominent advocate for expanding Medicaid access, environmental protection, and reproductive rights. Mills made history as the first woman to serve as Maine's governor and the first woman to serve as a district attorney in New England. Her administration has focused on climate change initiatives, including a goal for carbon neutrality, and expanding educational opportunities such as free community college programs.
