A member of the Republican Party, he currently serves as the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Before his election to Congress, Smith served in the Missouri House of Representatives, where he held leadership roles including majority whip and speaker pro tempore. Throughout his career, he has been a vocal advocate for conservative policies, including gun rights, tax reform, and opposition to COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
