Jay Chaudhuri is an American politician and attorney serving as a member of the North Carolina Senate. First appointed to the seat in 2016, he made history as the first Indian-American state legislator in North Carolina. Before his legislative career, he worked as a longtime aide to state officials including Roy Cooper and Janet Cowell, and served as an adjunct law professor at North Carolina Central University. In 2019, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as the Senate Minority Whip, the second-highest ranking position in the Democratic caucus.
