Before her federal election, she served as a Toronto city councillor from 2018 to 2025 and held the position of deputy mayor of Toronto from 2022 to 2025, during which she briefly assumed mayoral powers in 2023. Her political career has focused on environmental protection, infrastructure development, and public transit. Prior to entering politics, she worked as a senior scientist at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization and as a research director at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
