Jenny Wai Ching Kwan is a Canadian politician serving as the Member of Parliament for Vancouver East. Born in British Hong Kong, she immigrated to Canada at age nine and later graduated from Simon Fraser University. Kwan began her political career on the Vancouver City Council in 1993 before serving as a member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1996 to 2015, where she became the first Chinese-Canadian cabinet minister in the province. Since her election to the House of Commons in 2015, she has been a prominent advocate for immigration reform, asylum seekers, and public safety, frequently serving as a critic for the New Democratic Party.
