Jiří Čunek

Jiří Čunek is a Czech politician serving as a Senator of the Czech Republic, representing the Vsetín district since 2006. He previously served as the Governor of the Zlín Region from 2016 to 2020, as Deputy Prime Minister, and as Minister for Regional Development. Before his national political career, he was the long-serving mayor of Vsetín, where he gained national attention for his controversial approach to local Romani housing issues. A member of the KDU-ČSL party, he also led the organization between 2006 and 2009. Throughout his career, he has faced various corruption allegations, though he has not been formally charged and has maintained his political influence within the Czech legislative system.
