Jiří Pehe is a Czech political analyst, writer, and academic director born on August 26, 1955. He studied law and philosophy at Charles University in Prague before fleeing Czechoslovakia in 1981 and later graduating from Columbia University. Pehe worked for Freedom House and Radio Free Europe, and subsequently served as the director of the Political Cabinet for Czech President Václav Havel from 1997 to 1999, remaining Havel's external political advisor until 2003. Since 1999, he has directed New York University's academic center in Prague and frequently contributes political commentary to international and domestic media.
