Joan Bakewell is a British journalist, television presenter, and Labour Party peer. Born in 1933, she rose to prominence in the 1960s as a presenter for the BBC, notably on the programme Late Night Line-Up. Throughout her extensive broadcasting career, she has hosted numerous arts and ethics documentaries, including Heart of the Matter. In 2011, she was created a life peer and introduced to the House of Lords. A prominent humanist, she serves as a patron of Humanists UK and has been an advocate for social issues, including the representation of older women in media.
