Nick Forbes is a British politician and life peer who has served as a Member of the House of Lords since January 2026. Previously, he was a prominent figure in local government, serving as the Leader of Newcastle City Council from 2011 to 2022 and as the leader of the Labour Group of the Local Government Association from 2016 to 2022. A member of the Labour Party, Forbes has been a vocal critic of austerity measures and has focused his career on devolution, economic growth, and social policy. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2019 for his services to local government and currently chairs the Breaking Down Barriers Commission.
