Before his tenure as mayor, he served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana from 2010 to 2014 and as the Indiana Secretary of State from 1989 to 1994. Throughout his career, Hogsett has focused on initiatives related to public safety, violent crime reduction, and government integrity. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
