
John Cryer

John Cryer is a British politician and member of the House of Lords, having been created Baron Cryer in 2024. Born in 1964 to parents who were both Labour MPs, he previously served as the Member of Parliament for Hornchurch from 1997 to 2005 and for Leyton and Wanstead from 2010 to 2024. During his time in the Commons, he chaired the Parliamentary Labour Party from 2015 to 2024. A former journalist, Cryer is known for his Eurosceptic views and his history of political rebellion against party leadership on issues such as tuition fees and the Iraq War.
