John Stephen Monks, Baron Monks, is a British politician and trade union leader who has served as a life peer in the House of Lords since 2010. Before entering the legislature, he had a distinguished career in the labor movement, serving as the General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) from 1993 to 2003 and as the General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) from 2003 to 2011. A member of the Labour Co-operative party, he has been a prominent voice on industrial relations and economic policy throughout his career.
