John Sharkey, Baron Sharkey, is a British Liberal Democrat politician and a life peer in the House of Lords. Before entering Parliament, he had a distinguished career in communications, serving as the joint managing director of Saatchi & Saatchi UK and as a strategic communications advisor to Nick Clegg. He also chaired the Liberal Democrat general election campaign in 2010 and directed the 'YES! To Fairer Votes' campaign in 2011. As a peer, he is notably recognized for introducing the 'Alan Turing law,' which successfully sought to pardon men historically convicted under legislation that outlawed homosexual acts.
