John Whitby is a British Labour Party politician serving as the Member of Parliament for Derbyshire Dales since 2024. Before entering national politics, he worked in the civil service and served as a councillor on Derby City Council, including a term as the Mayor of Derby from 2017 to 2018. Earlier in his life, Whitby was a professional musician and the lead singer of the progressive rock band The Beyond. As an MP, he has focused on local issues such as addressing the housing crisis by advocating for stricter regulations on holiday lets.
