Joichi Ito is a Japanese politician currently serving as the 35th Speaker of the Hokkaido Prefectural Assembly. First elected to the assembly in 1991, he has secured nine consecutive terms representing the Shiroishi Ward of Sapporo. Before his political career, he worked as a secretary to his father, a former prefectural assembly member, and served as a corporate executive. A senior member of the Liberal Democratic Party in Hokkaido, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Secretary-General of the LDP Hokkaido Prefectural Federation. He is a strong advocate for regional development, focusing on decarbonization, digital transformation, and the expansion of the Hokkaido Shinkansen.
