Joost Manusama

Joost Manusama is a Dutch administrator and politician who has served as the Mayor of Capelle aan den IJssel since September 25, 2024. He holds the distinction of being the first mayor of Moluccan descent in the Netherlands. Before his mayoral appointment, Manusama had a career spanning over thirty years in the Dutch police force, where he served as a district police chief. He previously studied public administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam and was active in local politics as a municipal councilor for the VVD in Krimpen aan den IJssel. As mayor, he focuses on public order, safety, and social cohesion, while advocating for an integrated approach to youth crime and historical recognition for the Moluccan community.
