Josh Stein is an American politician and lawyer serving as the 76th Governor of North Carolina since 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the 51st Attorney General of North Carolina from 2017 to 2025 and as a member of the North Carolina Senate from 2009 to 2016. Stein is the first Jewish person to hold the office of governor in North Carolina. Throughout his career, he has focused on consumer protection, addressing the opioid epidemic, and clearing backlogs of untested sexual assault kits. He holds degrees from Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School.
