Julia Salazar is an American politician and activist serving as a member of the New York State Senate for the 18th district since 2019. A self-described democratic socialist and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, she gained prominence for her grassroots organizing and advocacy for tenant rights, sex workers' rights, and criminal justice reform. Before her election, she worked as a community organizer for the social justice non-profit Jews for Racial and Economic Justice. Her political platform focuses on systemic economic change, including support for universal rent control, Medicare for All, and the abolition of ICE.
