Koichi Morita is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Higashimatsuyama in Saitama Prefecture, a position he has held since 2010. Born in Takasaka, Higashimatsuyama, he graduated from Saitama University and previously worked as a surveyor. Before his mayoral tenure, he served as a member of the Higashimatsuyama City Council starting in 1995 and later as a member of the Saitama Prefectural Assembly. During his time as mayor, he has focused on local governance and social policy, notably introducing a partnership oath system for same-sex couples in 2021.
