Kaoru Nikaido is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Shibata in Niigata Prefecture. Born in 1952, he began his political career as a member of the Shibata City Council, where he served for eight terms and held the position of council chair. He was first elected mayor in 2010 after campaigning against the proposed construction of a bridge over the JR Shibata Station, citing concerns over excessive fiscal burden. Since taking office, he has focused on local revitalization efforts and has been re-elected multiple times, currently serving his fourth term.
