Kate Nicholl is a Northern Irish politician serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Belfast South since 2022. Born in Zimbabwe, she moved to Belfast at age 12 and later served as the 79th Lord Mayor of Belfast from 2021 to 2022. A member of the Alliance Party, she is a vocal advocate for migrant rights, asylum seekers, and improved maternity support for working mothers in politics. Her political career began on the Belfast City Council, where she was first co-opted in 2016 before being elected in 2019.
