Akinari Kawai is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives, elected through the Kinki proportional representation block. Born in Fukuoka and raised in Yokohama, he graduated from Waseda University and worked at Toray Industries, where he became active in the labor union. Before his national election, he served two terms as an Otsu City Council member and two terms as a Shiga Prefectural Assembly member. As a representative affiliated with the UA Zensen labor union, Kawai emphasizes policies focused on the perspectives of workers and ordinary citizens. He assumed his current national seat following the 2026 general election.
