Ken Hasebe is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Shibuya Ward in Tokyo. After graduating from Senshu University, he worked at the advertising agency Hakuhodo before entering politics. He served as a member of the Shibuya Ward Assembly for three terms starting in 2003, during which he gained national attention for proposing the Shibuya Ward Partnership Ordinance, Japan's first municipal ordinance recognizing same-sex partnerships. Elected mayor in 2015, he has focused on promoting diversity, internationalization, and managing the urban challenges of the district. He is an advocate for multicultural coexistence and has implemented various policies to address issues related to large-scale public events in the ward.
