Kenta Suzuki is the 21st elected Governor of Akita Prefecture, assuming office in 2025. Born in Osaka and raised in Kobe, he graduated from the University of Kyoto Faculty of Law before serving in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, including deployments for UN peacekeeping operations in East Timor and Iraq. After leaving the military, he became a judicial scrivener and served three terms in the Akita Prefectural Assembly, where he also held the position of Vice-Chairman. As governor, he emphasizes leveraging his background in crisis management and leadership to address regional challenges such as population decline and sustainable development.
