Kirk Watson is an American attorney and politician currently serving as the 59th mayor of Austin, Texas, a position he assumed in 2023. He previously served as the 54th mayor of Austin from 1997 to 2001 and as a member of the Texas Senate from 2007 to 2020. Throughout his career, Watson has focused on transportation infrastructure, urban development, and public education. A member of the Democratic Party, he has held various leadership roles, including chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus and president pro tempore of the Texas Senate. Before his political career, he was a prominent attorney and served as chairman of the Texas Air Control Board.
