Tsuneo Kitamura is a Japanese politician and former journalist currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Born in Tabuse, Yamaguchi Prefecture, he graduated from Chuo University and later completed a master's degree in international relations at the University of Pennsylvania. Before entering politics, he had a distinguished career at the Sankei Shimbun, where he served as a political reporter and eventually as the head of the political department. First elected to the House of Councillors in 2013, Kitamura has held various leadership roles, including Chairman of the Committee on Cabinet and Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense. He is known for his conservative political stances, supporting constitutional reform, the strengthening of Japan's defense capabilities, and the expansion of the Self-Defense Forces' role. He has been a member of the Liberal Democratic Party throughout his parliamentary career.
