Masami Kawano is a Japanese politician and psychiatrist currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. Born in Tokyo and raised in Fukuoka, he earned a medical degree from Aichi Medical University and a doctorate from Kyushu University. Before his return to the Diet in 2026, he held leadership roles in various medical associations and served as the director of the Saiseikai Kawano Hospital. Politically, he is a member of the Aso faction and has advocated for constitutional reform, including the revision of Article 9, and the necessity of nuclear power in Japan. He previously served two terms in the House of Representatives following his election in 2012 and 2014, before experiencing a period of electoral defeat and subsequent political comeback.
