Laura Ellman is an American politician serving as a Democratic member of the Illinois Senate for the 21st district. First elected in 2018 after defeating incumbent Republican Senator Michael Connelly, she represents a district within the Chicago metropolitan area. Before entering politics, Ellman worked as a senior independent assessor at the Argonne National Laboratory. She holds a degree in mathematics from Grinnell College and a master's degree in applied statistics from the University of Iowa.
