Ram Villivalam is an American politician serving as a member of the Illinois Senate for the 8th district. He made history as the first Asian American, Indian American, and Telugu American elected to the Illinois Senate, assuming office in January 2019 after defeating the incumbent in a competitive primary. Prior to his legislative career, he served as a political director for Congressman Brad Schneider and as a legislative coordinator for SEIU Healthcare-Illinois. He also co-founded the Progressive Turnout Project PAC in 2015 and currently serves as the Democratic Party committeeperson for Chicago's 39th ward.
