Laura Kelly

Laura Kelly is an American politician serving as the 48th Governor of Kansas since 2019. Before her election as governor, she served in the Kansas Senate representing the 18th district from 2005 to 2019, where she held leadership roles including Minority Whip and Assistant Minority Leader. A member of the Democratic Party, Kelly has focused her gubernatorial tenure on fiscal management, education funding, and healthcare expansion, including persistent efforts to expand Medicaid. She previously worked as a recreation therapist and as the executive director of the Kansas Recreation and Park Association.
