Lauren Ashley Simmons is an American politician serving as a member of the Texas House of Representatives for the 146th district. Born and raised in Houston's Third Ward, she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. Before her election, she worked as a resident services director and a union organizer for the Texas State Employees Union. Simmons gained public attention in 2023 for her viral criticism of the Houston Independent School District takeover. She was elected to the state legislature in 2024 after defeating incumbent Shawn Thierry in a primary runoff and subsequently winning the general election, assuming office in January 2025.
