Layla Moran is a British Liberal Democrat politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Oxford West and Abingdon since 2017. In September 2024, she was appointed Chair of the Health and Social Care Select Committee. A former maths and physics teacher, Moran is the first UK parliamentarian of Palestinian descent and the first to come out as pansexual. Throughout her career, she has been a vocal advocate for education reform, environmental action, and human rights, frequently criticizing the arms trade and calling for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. She remains a prominent figure within the Liberal Democrats, having previously served as the party's spokesperson for education and foreign affairs.
