Richard Chartres is a British peer and retired senior bishop of the Church of England. He served as the Bishop of London from 1995 to 2017 and as Dean of the Chapels Royal until 2019. Since 2017, he has sat as a crossbencher in the House of Lords. Throughout his career, he has been involved in significant national events, including the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton and the funeral of Baroness Thatcher. A proponent of environmental initiatives within the Church, he has also held numerous honorary academic and ecclesiastical roles.
