Shunichi Makino

Profile

Shunichi Makino is a Japanese politician and physician currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. Born in Kyoto in 1985, he graduated from the Hokkaido University School of Medicine and has worked as an emergency physician, including service with the DMAT during the 2014 Mount Ontake eruption. He is also a reserve officer in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force's medical corps and an adventure racer. After an unsuccessful run for the House of Councillors in 2025, he was elected to the House of Representatives in 2026 via the proportional representation block. He continues to maintain his medical practice alongside his parliamentary duties.
