Malarndirri McCarthy is an Australian politician and former journalist who has served as a Senator for the Northern Territory since 2016. In July 2024, she was appointed Minister for Indigenous Australians in the Albanese Government. Before entering federal politics, she served in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly and worked for 16 years as a reporter and newsreader for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, NITV, and SBS. McCarthy is a staunch advocate for Indigenous health, land rights, and social welfare reform.
