Representing the 23rd Assembly District, which includes parts of the San Francisco Peninsula and Silicon Valley, he is a member of the California Legislative Progressive Caucus. Before his election to the state legislature, he served on the Palo Alto City Council and worked as an attorney. Berman is known for his pro-housing policy stance and for authoring legislation to regulate deepfakes in political campaigns.
