Markus Marterbauer

Markus Marterbauer is an Austrian economist and politician currently serving as the Minister for Finance in the government of Christian Stocker. Born in 1965, he holds a doctorate in economics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Before his appointment in March 2025, he had a distinguished career as an economics consultant at the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) and as the head of the Department of Economics and Statistics at the Vienna Chamber of Labour. A proponent of the Keynesian school, Marterbauer advocates for active government intervention and sustainable investment to ensure social and economic security. He is widely recognized for his focus on fiscal policy, income redistribution, and socially equitable economic strategies.
