Martin Pfister

Martin Pfister is a Swiss politician and historian who has served as a member of the Swiss Federal Council since 2025. He currently leads the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport. Before his election to the federal government, he served as a Cantonal Minister (Regierungsrat) in Zug from 2016 to 2025, where he managed the health department and played a significant role in the regional response to the COVID-19 pandemic. A member of The Centre, Pfister is known for his socially and economically liberal views and his preference for fiscal responsibility through tax adjustments rather than debt accumulation.
