Masakazu Takei
Profile
Masakazu Takei is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Iizuka City in Fukuoka Prefecture. Born in 1961 in the former Honami Town, he graduated from Rikkyo University and pursued a career in education, serving as a junior high school teacher, head of the city's school education division, and deputy director of the Chikuho Education Office. He was appointed as the city's Superintendent of Education in 2020. Following the death of Mayor Makoto Katamine in 2023, Takei resigned from his education post to run for mayor, campaigning on a platform of continuing the previous administration's policies. He won the election in November 2023, becoming the first individual in the city to transition directly from Superintendent of Education to Mayor.
