Masatoshi Ishida is a veteran Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Representatives. Born in Kainan, Wakayama, he began his political career as a member of the Wakayama Prefectural Assembly before serving two terms as the Mayor of Kainan. Since his first election to the national Diet in 2002, he has held several high-profile positions, including Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications and State Minister of Finance. A member of the Liberal Democratic Party, Ishida supports Abenomics and the necessity of nuclear power in Japan. He has consistently opposed the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples and the scrambling of NHK broadcasts.
