Masayo Tanabu is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing Aomori Prefecture. Born in Hachinohe, she began her career as a secretary to her father, the late politician Masayoshi Tanabu. She previously served three terms in the House of Representatives and held positions including Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Within the Constitutional Democratic Party, she has served as Secretary-General of the House of Councillors caucus and as a key party executive. Politically, she has expressed support for gender equality initiatives, including the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples and the promotion of same-sex marriage, while maintaining a cautious stance on constitutional revision.
