A prominent member of the New Slovenia (NSi) party, he has served in various high-ranking national and European offices, including as Minister of Defence, Deputy Prime Minister, Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia, and leader of NSi. In 2024, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament representing Slovenia.
