Matija Kovač

Matija Kovač is a Slovenian architect, producer, and politician currently serving as the Mayor of Celje. Born in 1989, he spent part of his youth in Russia before returning to Slovenia, where he later earned a master's degree in architecture from the University of Ljubljana. Before his mayoral tenure, he was active in the cultural sector as a producer and co-founder of the Hiša kulture Celje institute. Kovač began his political career as a municipal councilor in 2014. In 2022, he was elected Mayor of Celje as an independent candidate, successfully ending the 24-year tenure of his predecessor, Bojan Šrot. His administration has focused on urban development projects, including the planning of a new passenger center in Celje.
