Mechthild Heil is a German politician and architect who has served as a member of the Bundestag representing Rhineland-Palatinate since 2009. A member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), she has held various committee roles, including chairing the Committee on Building, Housing, Urban Development and Local Government from 2018 to 2021. As of 2025, she serves as the chairwoman of the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid. Throughout her career, she has participated in several coalition negotiation working groups and notably broke with her party in 2017 to support the legalization of same-sex marriage in Germany.
