Mehreen Faruqi

Mehreen Faruqi is an Australian politician and former engineer who has served as a federal Senator for New South Wales since 2018. Born in Pakistan, she moved to Australia in 1992 and built a distinguished career in environmental engineering and academia before entering politics. She served in the New South Wales Legislative Council from 2013 to 2018, becoming the first Muslim woman to sit in an Australian parliament. As a prominent member of the Australian Greens, she has held the position of Deputy Leader since 2022. Her political work focuses on environmental sustainability, public transport, animal welfare, and social justice, often advocating for progressive policies and human rights.
