Ömer Öcalan is a Turkish politician currently serving as a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey representing Şanlıurfa. Born in 1987 in Halfeti, he studied journalism at Ankara University. He previously served as the co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) in Mardin from 2014 to 2016. A member of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM), he was first elected to parliament in 2018 and re-elected in 2023. He is known for his advocacy regarding Kurdish rights and his opposition to the state's policies toward Kurdish politicians and mayors.
