Meral Hussein-Ece, Baroness Hussein-Ece is a British politician and a Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords. Born in Islington to Turkish Cypriot parents, she became the first woman of Turkish Cypriot origin to serve in the UK Parliament upon her appointment as a life peer in 2010. Before entering the House of Lords, she had a distinguished career in local government, serving as a councillor for Hackney and later Islington, where she focused on health, social care, and equality issues. She was awarded an OBE in 2009 for her services to local government and has been a vocal advocate for ethnic minority representation and community cohesion throughout her career.
