Profile

Michael Fitzmaurice is an Irish politician serving as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Roscommon–Galway constituency. First elected to the Dáil in a 2014 by-election for Roscommon–South Leitrim, he has since become a prominent advocate for rural interests, particularly regarding agricultural policy and turf-cutting rights. Before entering national politics, he managed an agricultural and turf contracting business and served on the Galway County Council. A former member of the Independent Alliance, he joined the Independent Ireland party in 2024 and remains a vocal critic of policies he views as detrimental to Irish livestock farmers and rural heritage.
